Check this. Vlad’s readying for his move to TO and packs his cubical at work. He leaves, but his stuff is being shipped the next week…. hummmm. Time to do something, lets boost his wheels!!!
BACKGROUND: Vlad owns a scooter, he uses it at work, look both ways before stepping into the hall… zzzzzzzzzip… there goes Vlad.
I don’t think we ever did sent those wheels, Oops There are some lame pics in my albums if you want to see.
In April we got the happy-happy-joy-joy news that the Edmonton office is getting downsize. What does that mean? Vlad gets transfered to TO, James and Craig (my cubical buddy) are gone. Oh, and some other people too, but not me.
Damn!!
I guess there’s only three things to do 1) Beer 2) More beer 3) Make T-Shirts!!!
T-Shirts you say? It all started when Vlad left MIG (5-6 years ago)… as a joke James and I made him a T-Shirt that said “Two and half years of building planes and all I get is this lousy T-Shirt” and of course it had a picture of a MIG-29. Being the sole surviver of this tradition it fell to me to make the T-Shirts.
I think they came out rather well, see for yourself…
Just a quick note for you all since there has been a whirlwind of stuff that happened while I’ve been here in Quebec. The office is nice, the people are awesome, girls are hot and I saw Johnny 5 from Short Circuit today on the way to work!!
I did a little bit of photography yesterday when Queen Mary 2 arrived in the city. I got couple of beautiful shots that you can see in the gallery. More pictures will be added during the week.
Check into these sites. I also downloaded the 911 In Plane Site Documentary. As another perspective to this situation it’s worth watching. Check these sites out as they have some video and pictures that are being questioned by a lot of people, professionals, military personal etc…
“Type Shit In”? This is JanineSpeak for “Tell everyone our Europe pictures are now available online.” Available for 4-6 weeks onlyI am so tempted to applogize for the fact that they are unfiltered. Every singel fucking shot taken in our 3 week jaunt to Edinburgh, London, Paris, Rome and London. ~500 jpgs, I hope vlad has the space.
but you heard correctly. J9 intents to take the pix down in a month or two, so view now, while the viewin’s good.
I’m still alive. Honest! Amazingly, stupendously and utterly alive.
My faith into telecom companies is much less alive, but I’ll get to
that in a moment.
I need to rehash my memory of all the things that happened in the most
arduous and boring drive of my life. Apart from that time I was driving
back from Kelowna at night. But this drive takes the cake for Boring by
a mile (or a thousand). Here are the things that have happened since
leaving Edmonton.It
turns out that leaving the driveway of my house was the hardest thing
of it all. It took me good hour and a half of bringing one trinket
after another, one by one, without hurry, before I caught myself doing
everything in slow motion and dragging out the inevitable. So I gave
myself a swift kick in the butt, told myself to get my shit together
and get out. I said “so long” to the house and my room and started the
car. That was the hardest thing I have done in a long time.
Drive day 1
First leg of the drive took me all the way to Yorkton, SK. I got there
around midnight and had to look for a hotel. I think I hit a bat while
driving at night. I heard a thud and then something size of a been bag
rolled up my windshield. Fortunately, there was no damage to the car or
windshield. I slept in the Holliday Inn that was undergoing “minor”
construction. It front entrance was pretty much demolished and the
check-in desk was akin to a war zone (or any of my construction
projects). The good news was, they had non-smoking rooms. I slept
alright that night considering I was worried about the content of my
car that was parked on the street. I woke up before 9 am and continued
driving.
Drive day 2
Second leg was even more boring than the first one – barring few
highlights. The raid had followed me from Edmonton did not let up. I
think during the day I would make headways against it, but during the
night the low pressure system would catch up to me. So, more rain and
gray gray gray all around. I passed by the longitudinal center of this
great country of ours. Unfortunately, I left my camera buried in the
backpack and didn’t take a picture of it. Maybe next time… (Yeah, like
I’m going to drive this again if I don’t have to).
I arrived into Dryden, ON around 10:30pm. The air was filled with aroma
of skunk and wood pulp. YUM! I decided to take up room at the Best
Western, but they were all full. Got sent to Kwality Inn (it wasn’t
quality at all) and ended up sleeping in a smoking room at the Chalet
Inn. I never realised how much smoke gets into a motel room. And this
motel room had seen better times. The room REAKED of smoke. I wasn’t
going to sleep at the Kwality Inn, and this was the only room available
so I stuck it out. At 2:30am I got woken up by the freight train that
was conveniently located in the back of the motel (where my room ended
up being), but luckily only an hour and a half later I was able to fall
asleep. The highlight of the stay in Dryden was the most awesome
breakfast at the Husky Truck stop.
Drive day 3
The clouds that were following me since Alberta stuck around to the
middle of day three. I’ve never hated gray dull sky, but at this point
I was warming up to the idea.
The drive from Dryden to Sault Ste. Marie was 11 solid hours of pine
trees and moose on the road signs. I was speeding about 15-20 over when
I noticed an OPP car right behind me. I was sure I was getting a
speeding ticket. Fortunately, I think that it was end of his day and he
was rushing to watch Olympics or something because he passed me and
just kept going. In Sault Ste. Marie I got severely lost following
directions from the hotel clerk and had to stop and buy a town map.
Turns out I booked myself a hotel in downtown area (not bad) – somewhat
shady downtown area (not so good) but it was getting close to midnight
and I just wanted to crash. Let the punks steal all they want from my
car. Surprisingly, noting like that happened.
Drive day 4
Last day of driving was at a more leisurely pace. The clouds that
followed me from Alberta disappeared and I was left with beautiful blue
skies. Seven hours after breakfast I was in Toronto, being just late
enough to have to sleep over in a hotel since the rental office closed
at 4pm. That was my last night with a decent bed and TV. I haven’t
watched TV in almost three weeks and I’m not missing it too much.
On the other hand, I’ve read all the books I have and a bag of books
that I’ve bought. Now I can understand how Cliff can read a two foot
high stack of books in a month.
Saturday was the big day. I got to the office early in the morning. It
hit +28C that day, and was disgustingly humid. I got my keys and my
garage sticker and found out that the apartment was painted, but it
didn’t get completely cleaned yet. They asked for half an hour to get
it all ready and I parked in the garage and started loading stuff up
into the elevator.
Mini-rant: Why don’t people look for signs that say “Elevator in
service”. I had to chase my elevator so many times that in the end I
told the super to put it back into service so I would get it quicker.
FUCKERS!! There – just had to take that off my chest.
That evening I decided that going to movies would be a good idea to get
used to the city (in a small way I admit). As I got to my car, there
was a note under my windshield wipers “DO NOT PARK IN MY SPOT EVER
AGAIN!!!” To which all I had to respond with was – “but the rental
office gave me this spot” Unfortunately, the rental office was closed
by then, and I was afraid that my car was going to be vandalized by
some idiot that thought it was his spot. I left an annoyed message on
the rental office’s answering machine and left for the movies.
Collateral was quite good and I enjoyed it. It took my mind off the
heat and the asshole in the garage. However, when I got back, asshole
re-parked and took my assigned spot. Then I was in a pickle. My first
day; I have no idea what spots may be empty and apparently vindictive
jerk that took my assigned spot. Fortunately, someone came in, I asked
them if they knew of any free spots and they pointed at one and said
that they were not sure if it was used or not – but they haven’t seen
any cars for about three weeks. So I wrote up a long advance apology
letter and left it on my dashboard. I was hoping he was right and that
no one was going to key my car or something.
Sunday I spent in bed, relaxing and trying to re-energize. The heat was just too much for me at that point.
Just wanted everyone to know we arrived safely in Vancouver. The drive was nice but fairly uneventful. I found a very nice room in a large 100 yr old house 2 blocks from the water in Kitsilano. Excellent jogging to be had in a very quiet and well kept neighbourhood. You should see some of the fancy houses down the street from me!
